Travels
Oropesa and Avila
The building in front of the Castle is a parador, well worth staying in.
View from or room.
On the way from Oropesa to Avila the road follows a route that has been used for many centuries. This bridge is from Roman times.
On the right is the modern highway. On the left is the road from roman times.
A Castle along the way.
Avila is a city surrounded by a huge wall 10 meters high with 88 towers.
The cathedral is built right into the wall.
Toledo, Aranjuez, El Real de Manzeres
Toledo is a beautiful medival city and a number 1 attraction in Spain. The best spot is across the river at sunset.
The tall building looks more modern but dates back as far as the 3rd century and the new building the 16th century. The Cathedral can be see on the left hand side.
This Cathedral unfortunately allows no pictures inside. It is loaded with riches making more like a museum. security is every where.
Palacio Real is a palace just out of Madrid in Aranjuez.
This is an elagant Castle near Madrid.
Cuenca, Segovia
Cuenca is famous for it's hanging houses.
This view show Cuenca from the hill side. The main building on the hill on the left is a parador where we stayed. It is a renovated monastary converted to a hotel.
The paradors were constructed as a way to save historic buildings. This one is very nice.
The castle at Segovia is easily the most beautiful in the country. We climbed a hill across from the castle and took pictures for hours as the sun set.
Being on the hill top this moat made the castle easily defendable.
The Alcazar is now a weapons museum.
This is a 200 year old Roman Aqueduct with huge stones and no mortar.
There was a reinactment in period costume.
